On a Nonlinear Elliptic Boundary Value Problem

Consider a bounded domain G C R (_N>1) with smooth boundary T . Let L be a uniformly elliptic linear differential operator. Let y and ß be two maximal monotone mappings in R. We prove that, when y ? 2 satisfies a certain growth condition, given f £ L (G ) there is u € H (G) such that Lu + y(u) 3 f a.e. on G, and -du/d v e ß(u\ ) a.e. on T, where du/civ is the conormal derivative associated with...

A Sharp Sufficient Condition for Sparsity Pattern Recovery

Sufficient number of linear and noisy measurements for exact and approximate sparsity pattern/support set recovery in the high dimensional setting is derived. Although this problem as been addressed in the recent literature, there is still considerable gaps between those results and the exact limits of the perfect support set recovery. To reduce this gap, in this paper, the sufficient con...

Existence of positive solutions for a boundary value problem of a nonlinear fractional differential equation

This paper presents conditions for the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for a boundary value problem of a nonlinear fractional differential equation. We show that it has at least one or two positive solutions. The main tool is Krasnosel'skii fixed point theorem on cone and fixed point index theory.

MIXED BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM FOR A QUARTER-PLANE WITH A ROBIN CONDITION

We consider a mixed boundary value problem for a quarter-plane with a Robin condition on one edge. We have developed two procedures, one based on the advanced theory of dual integral equations and the other, in our opinion simpler technique, relying on conformal mapping. Both of the procedures are of interest, because the former may be easier to adapt to other boundary value problems.

A NECESSARY AND SUFFICIENT CONDITION FOR THE EXISTENCE Of A UNIQUE SOLUTION OF A DISCRETE BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM

A kth-order linear difference equation with constant coefficients subject to boundary conditions is considered. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a unique solution for such a boundary value problem is established. The condition established answers a fundamental question for well-posedness and can be easily applied using a simple and computationally tractable algorithm th...
